UNISA — How to Apply

ℹ️UNISA is a distance learning institution. All applications and study materials are managed online.

1 Visit the UNISA website

Go to www.unisa.ac.za and click on "Apply". Applications open between October and January for the following year.

2 Create a myUnisa account

Register on the myUnisa student portal. You'll use this account for all future communication, results, and study material access.

3 Choose your qualification

Search for your desired qualification by name or code. Check the admission requirements carefully — each programme has different APS score and subject requirements.

4 Upload your documents

Submit certified copies of your ID and latest academic results. Make sure certifications are not older than 3 months.

5 Pay the application fee

UNISA charges an application fee. Pay via EFT, credit card, or at a participating bank. Keep your proof of payment.

6 Track your application

Log back into myUnisa to check the status of your application. Successful applicants will receive a formal acceptance letter.

UKZN — How to Apply

ℹ️UKZN has campuses in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, and surrounding areas. Applications open in April each year.

1 Check closing dates

Visit www.ukzn.ac.za. UKZN typically opens applications in April and closes in September for the following year.

2 Apply online

Complete the online application form on the UKZN student portal. You will need your NSC results or predicted results if you are still in Grade 12.

3 Upload certified documents

Upload your ID, results, and proof of address. All documents must be certified by a commissioner of oaths.

4 Pay the application fee

Pay the non-refundable application fee via the UKZN payment portal or at any FNB branch.

5 Apply for residence

If you need on-campus accommodation, apply for residence at the same time as your academic application — spaces are limited and competitive.

University of Johannesburg — How to Apply

⚠️UJ is highly competitive. Applications close early — usually by September. Do not miss the deadline.

1 Check minimum requirements

Visit www.uj.ac.za and search for your desired programme. Each faculty has different APS and subject requirements.

2 Apply via UJ's online portal

Create a profile on the UJ application portal and complete the online form. You can apply for up to 3 programmes in one application.

3 Prepare supporting documents

Certified ID copy, Grade 11 results (or final Grade 12 if available), and proof of residence.

4 Pay the application fee

The application fee is non-refundable. Payment can be made online or at a participating bank.

University of Cape Town — How to Apply

⚠️UCT is one of the most competitive universities in Africa. Applications open in April and close in July.

1 Check selection requirements

UCT uses a points system based on your NSC results. Visit www.uct.ac.za to calculate your score for your chosen faculty.

2 Complete the online application

Apply via UCT's Student Admissions portal. You'll need to create an account and complete the application form carefully.

3 Submit certified documents

UCT requires certified copies of your ID and your most recent results. International students need additional documentation.

4 Monitor your application

Log back into the admissions portal to check your status. UCT notifies applicants via email and the portal.

Tshwane University of Technology — How to Apply

ℹ️TUT has multiple campuses across Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga.

1 Browse programmes

Visit www.tut.ac.za and explore available diplomas, bachelor degrees, and postgraduate programmes.

2 Apply online

Complete TUT's online application form. Applications typically open in April each year.

3 Submit documents

Certified ID, certified Grade 11 or 12 results, and proof of address. Late applications are not accepted.

4 Choose your campus

Specify which TUT campus you prefer when applying. Not all programmes are offered at all campuses.

General Application Steps

These steps apply to most South African universities. Always verify the specific requirements on the institution's official website.

1 Research your options

Choose 3–5 universities that offer your desired programme. Compare requirements, fees, location, and campus culture.

2 Check APS requirements

Calculate your Admission Point Score (APS) and confirm you meet the minimum for your chosen programmes.

3 Prepare documents in advance

Certified ID, school results, proof of address, and a motivational letter if required. Get documents certified early.

4 Apply online

Complete each university's online application. Most charge a non-refundable application fee of R100–R200.

5 Apply for funding

Apply for NSFAS or relevant bursaries at the same time. Don't wait for an acceptance letter before applying for funding.

6 Track and follow up

Keep track of all your applications and follow up if you haven't received a response within 4 weeks after the closing date.
